Primary mediastinal synovial sarcoma with transdiaphragmatic extension presenting as a pericardial effusion.

چکیده
Synovial sarcoma is a distinctive soft tissue neoplasm, most commonly seen in the extremities of young adults. Mediastinal synovial sarcoma is a well-documented entity; however, in many cases, the differentiation between this and other spindle cell tumours may be difficult, especially in monophasic tumours. Unlike most pleuropulmonary synovial sarcomas which are well circumscribed, mediastinal tumours are often infiltrative and resection may not be adequate, leading to a high rate of recurrence. We present a 49-year-old man with a primary pericardial synovial sarcoma, with transdiaphragmatic intra-abdominal extension, which clinically, radiologically and grossly mimicked a tuberculous pericarditis.

Primary Synovial Sarcoma Presenting as a Huge Mass: A Report of a Rare Case and Review of Literature
Primary synovial sarcoma of mediastinum is very rare among soft tissue sarcomas. Only a few cases have been reportedin the literatures. The best treatment is still unclear, but, surgical resection is the main therapy. In this article we reporta case of a 20*20 cm (2000gr) primary giant mediastinal synovial sarcoma in a 42 year-old man. We performed radicalexcision of the tumor...
متن کاملPericardial synovial sarcoma: challenges in diagnosis and management
INTRODUCTION Pericardial synovial sarcoma is an extremely rare tumor with poor prognosis. Timely diagnosis and aggressive multimodal management improves patient outcome. We present our experience of diagnosis and management of a young patient with monophasic synovial sarcoma arising from pericardium. CASE A 27-year-old man presented with dyspnea and cough of three weeks duration. Examination ...
متن کاملBiphasic Epithelial Predominant Synovial Sarcoma Presenting as Painful Thigh Mass
Synovial sarcomas are soft tissue neoplasms mostly located in the lower extremities of young adults. A case of synovial sarcoma of the thigh in a 35-year-old male with the predominant epithelial component is reported. Microscopically the tumor showed variable-sized well-differentiated glands lined by the cuboidal cells with small foci of spindle cell component between glandular structures...
متن کاملMediastinal Myxoid Liposarcoma with Intrapericardial Involvement and Large Pericardial Effusion.
Liposarcoma is the name given to a group of soft tissue sarcomas (STSs) with adipocytic differentiation. As a group, liposarcomas are the second most common STSs in adults. In 1951 Kozonis et al published that in the English language only four cases of liposarcomas originating in the mediastinum had been described. Primary mediastinal liposarcoma is an uncommon neoplasm of intrathoracic origin....
متن کاملPrimary Pericardial Sarcoma with Right Atrial Invasion and Multiple Bilateral Pulmonary Metastases in a Patient with Hereditary Nonpolyposis Colorectal Cancer
Primary tumours originating from the pericardium are extremely rare. Previous studies have reported that these tumours account for only 6.7-12.8% of all mediastinal tumours with an overall prevalence of 0.001% to 0.007%. The majority of these tumours are benign lipomas or pericardial cysts. The most common pericardial malignancy is mesothelioma. Sarcomas are soft-tissue mesenchymal malignancies...
